Cathedral Range State Park

Around two to two-and-a-half hours from most parts of Melbourne, Cathedral Range is an ideal place to easily go camping or even just for a day hike to Cathedral Peak, providing incredible view of the Victorian countryside.

There are two campsites that both have easy vehicle access, although Neds Gully requires you to carry your gear for about fifty metres to the other side of a small creek.

Great Otway National Park

Deep in the rain forest, Aire Crossing is surrounded by dense bush land and is the main campsite in Beach Forest. In the heart of the Otways National Park, this stunning area can be accessed from the inland highway or it’s just a twenty/thirty minute drive off the Great Ocean Road.

With waterfalls, the Redwoods, day hikes, tree top walks and ocean just around the corner, Aire Crossing campsite is a place to go camping when exploring the Great Ocean Road or looking for a forest get-away in south-west Victoria.

Brisbane Rangers National Park

Brisbane Rangers National Park is right at the bottom of Victoria, an hour or so drive direct east from the Melbourne CBD or around twenty to thirty minutes north of Geelong.

There are two main camping grounds that can be accessed by car and several other hikers campsites. Day hike or overnight options, beautiful camp sites and just a short drive from Melbourne, it’s well worth checking out.

Grampians National Park

The Grampians are one of the best places to go camping in Victoria! Located two-and-a-half hours west of Melbourne, halfway to South Australia, it’s still possible to head there for a day hike.

Covering the huge area of 170,000 hectares, there are loads of hiking trails and campsites, creeks, waterfalls and lookouts in the Grampians National Park.
