Khancoban Caravan Park is spread out across a large grassy area with exceptionally good facilities, just beside the lake.
It’s 13 kms into NSW from Victorian border and about 75 kms from Thredbo, making it a great location to set up base with the caravan if you’re planning on heading to Kosiosko and the surrounding area and would prefer not to tow up the incredibly steep and winding hills on the way to Australia’s highest peak.
There are powered and non-powered sites on a large field of lush grass, most of which have views of the lake but a lack of shade (although some can still be found if you’re lucky enough to park under one of the large trees). Each site is of generous size, bringing along a big rig won’t be an issue.
For those that didn’t bring the caravan, motor home or tent along, there are cabins and units available.
When it’s a bit colder, head inside to the games room or enjoy watching the large TV and sitting by the indoor fire.
During the warmer months, make the most of fishing on the lake (near the damn wall is a decent spot!) on exploring the mountains by foot on the large number of close-by hiking trails.
There’s a track that leaves the caravan park and takes you to a creek, about 500 metres away. It’s not just nice to look at, but a perfect family-friendly spot for a swim or to dangle your feet in the water while sitting on the bank.
Campground Facilities
The facilities and ammenities are of an excellent condition and standard, on par with the best of any caravan park.
The indoor camp kitchen is sparkling clean with plenty of space and decent appliances, right next to a large sitting area (indoor and outdoor), with an indoor fire, all connected to the TV and games room. Just outside of the games room is an undercover barbecue area.
Just near the camp kitchen is the amenities block which will almost make you feel like you’re at home. There’s also coin laundry facilities.
