Beachside Campground at Diamond Head, NSW
About 40 kms south of Port Macquarie, roughly half way between Sydney and Byron Bay is the beautiful Diamond Head Beach where you can camp just back from the sand on the grass covered Diamond Head Campground.
Diamond Head Beach stretches for kilometres from south to north and is with-in a stones throw from the campground. You can drive onto the beach from the campground, entering at the very southern part of the beach where you can then head north to get away from the crowds, otherwise it’s a very short walk from your site to the sand.
75 individual campsites are spread throughout Diamond Head Campground and although it’s a pretty long drive down a dirt track covered in pot holes, the place is suited for all types of campers, from tents to caravans.
All camp sites are on nice thick lawn with plenty of trees, this doesn’t just attract lots of campers but loads of Kangaroos too.
On the beachside of the campground is an amenities block with flushing toilets and cold showers that are cleaned daily.
Between the entrance to Diamond Head Beach and the amenities are several shelters with picnic tables and a barbecue area.
An outdoor shower for washing off the sand is just at the top of the path to the beach, & more running water can be found at a tap on the outside wall of the amenities block.
If there’s not a fire ban in place, fires are allowed in raised fire pits which can be rented from the onsite office, which is open in the mornings.
