Biodegradable Cornstarch PLA
Dental Floss Product Eco Rating
This plastic-free dental floss is made out of a Cornstarch PLA, which is durable and renewable, plant-based material that’s completely biodegradable. Theoretically, as it’s a PLA, if the floss was never used, it’s possible that it can be recycled.
Using renewable materials for this dental floss is sustainable, furthermore, producing the floss from a plant-based PLA uses far less energy and other resources during the manufacturing process when compared to typical, plastic-based floss.
The biodegradable dental floss is packaged in small glass jar with a tin lid, both materials are 100% recyclable.
When comparing the durability of Cornstarch floss with typical dental floss, it’s difficult to notice a difference. However, as the floss is disposable and intended for single use, the durability rating has been reduced.
Weighing just 18 grams, this biodegradable dental floss comes in a 30 metre roll that’s packed to be 6.2 by 2.5 cms.
*Please not that in Australia, to claim that a product is compostable has to be verified by particular official authorities, where-as this have not, although according to the manufacturer, from their own testing, they have found that this corn based floss will completely break down in the compost. It has also been proven and recognised that Cornstarch PLA products are compostable.
