Leura Cascades Loop Walk

Watch the water flow from the creek and cascade down the steep rocky cliffs in between the forest covered mountains.

Leura Cascades are right on the edge of the mountains, between the townships of Katoomba and Leura, a short distance from the famous Three Sisters, you can even see them in the background. Get magnificent views from the top of the cascades looking out, across the Blue Mountains on a short walk that can either be done as a loop or in-out to Leura Cascades and Bridal Veil Lookout and back.

To complete the short loop, which is about 1.6 kms, park your car near the old Solitary Restaurant, then where the road has a sharp bend (on the mountain side of the restaurant), head on the track towards Bridal Veil Lookout, which is where you get the view of Leura Cascades from the top (there are signs that will guide you).

Once you’ve soaked in the sights over the cascades and out to the Blue Mountains, take the track that goes partly along the creek at the top of the cascades and then continue on following the signs to Leura Picnic Area. At the picnic area, either walk along the road back to where you started or take the footpath, which is slightly shorter as it cuts through the bush.

If you’re just wanting to head straight to Leura Cascades and Bridal Veil Lookout on the nicest, shortest route, in and out, start at the picnic area and walk to the Upper Cascades, then walk south along the track all of the way to the lookout – this is the nicest part of the trail and reduces the elevation gained, it’s also a bit shorter at about 600 metres each way.
